Practice Team

Dr Andrew Mellor (3069530)

Partner in the practice since 1989, a GP trainer since 1997. Medical interest include asthma, COPD and migraine. Led in the introduction of the End-of-Life Pathway for the Barnsley area. Involved in the Out-of-Hours service, the Supportive Care Group and commissioning.

Personal interests include music, playing guitar (but not giving up the day job), reading, exercise and involvement with church.

Dr Heather J. Smith (3465648)

I qualified as a doctor in London (Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School) in 1990 and then undertook my GP training in Barnsley in the early 90s. I have been a Partner at the practice since 2001.

My interests within the practice include teaching, management, women's health and diabetes. I (along with Dr Santiago Martin) am a GP trainer and so help with the training of doctors to become GPs. This is why we usually have one or two GP Registrars in the practice who work with us for 6 months to a year.

My interests outside the practice involve spending as much time outdoors as possible; a lot of that time in the North East (Hadrian's Wall, Whitley Bay etc.) where both of my children are at University.

Dr Aitor Santiago-Martin LMS MRCS MRCGP DFFP MSOM (4243070)

I qualified in Medicine and Surgery in June 1995 by the University of the Basque Country, Biscay, Basque Country and worked as a hospital junior doctor for 6 years, living in Darfield for most of that time. I trained as a GP in the Sheffield Training Scheme between 2002 and 2005 and have been working for the practice ever since.

I am a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (2000) and a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (2005). My interests are minor operations, musculoskeletal medicine and mental health.

Dr Caroline Hollis (4717786)

I qualified from Sheffield University Medical School and joined the practice as a salaried GP in August 2005, becoming a partner in 2014. My clinical interests include Dermatology and Women's Health.

Dr Maria Wrest BSc (Hons) MBBS MRCGP (6167076)

I qualified from Newcastle University Medical School in 2009 and joined the practice as a salaried GP in August 2016, having completed my GP training in Doncaster. My special interests include Women's and Children's Health, Dermatology and Mental Health problems.

Outside of work I'm mum to a toddler and spend most of my time entertaining and chasing after him, but when I get chance I like to go to live music events, eat out and take nature walks with my little one!

Dr Jennifer Farrington (7527844)

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2012 and continued my postgraduate training in South Yorkshire. My final year of GP training was spent at Garland House and I feel very fortunate to have been offered a post as a Salaried GP on the completion of my training in August 2017.

Outside of work I enjoy going to the cinema and spending time in beautiful places such as the Peak District.

Dr Stuart Haldon

I studied at Hull York Medical School and did my foundation training in North and East Yorkshire. I moved to South Yorkshire in 2015 for GP training in Barnsley. After completing my training at the practice I now work as a salaried GP.

In my spare time I do a bit of cycling and running, play the occasional game of football, and take the dog for long walks.

Kay Bennett

I have been qualified as a Registered General Nurse since 1986. I worked on plastic surgery and urology for 5 years and then became a District Nurse for a further 4 years. I have been a Practice Nurse since 1996 and started work with Dr Mellor & Partners in 2004.

Sue Fellows

I qualified as a Nurse in 1995 and have had experience in medicine, community nursing and A&E before moving into Practice Nursing. I started work with Dr Mellor & Partners in 2004 and enjoy providing a service to our patients.

Emma Meddick - Advanced Nurse Practitioner

I qualified as a nurse in 2001 at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. I have worked in Haematology, Accident and Emergency and Community nursing. I qualified as a District Nursing Sister in 2010.

I undertook my Non Medical Prescribing qualification in 2014 at Sheffield Hallam University. I was appointed as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in 2015 in a Rotherham GP Practice. During this time I attained further qualifications in Minor Illness management and Advanced Physical Assessment skills from Sheffield Hallam University. My special interests include Palliative Care, Mental Health and Women's Health.

Outside of work I am a mother to two young children who keep me very busy! My husband and I enjoy taking our children to the Lake District, going to the coast and enjoying spending all of our time off together as a family.

Donna Brook - Practice Manager

I joined the practice in September 2006 as a receptionist, working my way up to reception supervisor and then subsequently reception manager. I began my current role in June 2018 and I am now responsible for the day to day management of the practice.

Jodie Duke - Reception Manager
